SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS

For nearly 60 years, ��ϲ� has provided a pathway to success for tens of thousands of graduates. We offer a wide array of highly relevant undergraduate and graduate academic degree programs in one of the most exciting and culturally vibrant cities in the world. Our alumni are leaders in a number of fields both across the nation and globally. Most scholarships are awarded based on academic credentials and student accomplishments reviewed through the admission's process. A separate scholarship application is not required, but ACT or SAT test scores and an official, current high school transcript should be submitted as soon as possible. Transfer students should submit all college transcripts as soon as possible.

Institutional scholarships are offered to new, incoming ��ϲ� students for the upcoming year. Continuing students are unfortunately not eligible for Institutional scholarships, and should inquire about Departmental Scholarship opportunities with their academic college.

Scholarships are made possibly in part through gifts and awards from alumni and friends of the university. Your scholarship amount and award description may reflect one or more gift sources.

FAFSA

We strongly encourage all students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the best award package. Grants are awarded based on need, as demonstrated by the student's current FAFSA. (*)Denotes a ��ϲ� scholarship awarded without a FAFSA on file. All scholarships and grants are limited in funding, and meeting qualifications do not guarantee receipt of scholarship or grant. Additional scholarships may be offered that involve an interview, and qualified admitted students will be notified accordingly.

TOPS

The Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) is a State of Louisiana scholarship program for Louisiana residents. TOPS is administered through the and is an external entity to ��ϲ�.

The preferred date for the completion of the Application for Admission is no later than June 1.
All international students must complete the SAT, ACT, or COMPASS.
Usually international students cannot submit a FASFA, therefore, additional income and asset information may be requested by the financial aid office.
Scholarship funding is limited. For all incoming students, the evaluations of the Application for Admission in conjunction with a recommended completed FAFSA are the primary sources for scholarship consideration.
The University strongly encourages prospective and incoming students to submit a completed FAFSA and Application for Admission as early as possible to ensure timely consideration.
All students must be admitted or enrolled at ��ϲ� to receive scholarship funding. While an offer is made to incoming students, the offer must be accepted in the specified timeframe, as indicated. Failure to accept a scholarship offer within the prescribed timeframe is considered a forfeiture of the offer.

All graduate applicants are encouraged to contact their department and the Graduate School about Scholarship, details on the awards offered by the University of New Orleans and how to apply for them, awards and/or assistance offer by or through individual departments, and awards offered by external organizations not tied to the University.

The amount of each award varies by student. Upon admission to the University, incoming first-time, full-time students are offered an estimated scholarship and aid package that utilizes state supplements (such as TOPS) and ��ϲ� scholarships to meet their financial obligation to the University. Once the FASFA is received, a final Scholarships and Aid Package will be offered to the student based on availability.

Tax Information for Scholarship Recipients

The Federal Tax Reform Act of 1986 declares that scholarships, fellowships, and grants that exceed the amount of tuition, fees, and course-related books, supplies, and equipment are taxable.

Cost of Attendance Update

The Financial Aid Office will follow the federal and University of Louisiana System policies in regards to cost of attendance (COA). When combined with TOPS, waivers, fee exemptions, state aid, federal financial grants or loans, or Federal College Work Study Program and all other aid, university scholarships should not exceed the "cost of attendance." "Cost of attendance" is defined as "an estimate of the student's educational expenses for a period of enrollment" pursuant to Title IV. This definition and the cost of attendance components are included in the LOSFA TOPS guidelines.
